SOUTHPOINT STORIES - MRS LUU'S

Au and Loc – Owners of Mrs Luu’s Southpoint

Owners of Mrs Luu’s Southpoint, Au and Loc are proof that dreams really can come true.

Seven years ago, when the now close friends met working at a Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen, they never could have imagined their paths were going to lead to them buying the business.

Au and Loc both grew up in Vietnam and had a passion for food that was certified upon moving to Australia 10 years ago. Au studied Hospitality at Griffith University and Loc began Commercial Cookery at Southbank Tafe.

Loc had always loved cooking with his mum and reminisces over their traditional Banh Bot Loc and sharing feasts with family. He misses these moments, as having a business and returning to Vietnam as regularly as he would like doesn’t happen easily.

These successful business owners both have busy households to juggle as well as running the restaurant, with Au raising two boys and Loc three boys which include twins. They are both looking forward to cooking with their sons as they get older, but love that they are all keen eaters and enjoy their dishes daily.

When not enjoying Vietnamese food, Loc enjoys a nice piece of steak and spicy Korean soup. He enjoys his time in the garden when he is at home and is looking forward to the day he can expand his fresh produce from home with fruit trees, in particular guavas.

Pro tip – if you are looking for something delicious for lunch, why not try their specials menu with dishes such as Steamed Wontons with Soy Chilli Oil and Chicken Pho. Don’t forget to indulge your senses with their house made drinks like Lychee Slushie or Vietnamese Iced Coffee too!

On a busy day at Mrs Luu’s Southpoint they can make up to 70-80 twin packs of rice paper rolls – that’s 140-160 rolls a day, which is a lot of rolling! But Au and Loc love cooking and serving the local community and love seeing South Bank regulars visit the store and enjoy their food.
