March 8th is International Women’s Day. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is “An equal world is an enabled world.”
Here are some simple ways that you can mark this important day:
1. Host an event.
Bring together some of your favourite women for breakfast, or morning or afternoon tea. Take the time to share stories of individual achievements and those of women and organisations who inspire you. You could even multiply the impact of your event by asking for a small donation to a local women’s charity. Southpoint’s Pourboy is the perfect destination. Indulge in their delicious Croque Madam in honour of the occasion!
2. Community action.
Show your support for our most vulnerable women. Grab a tote bag and head to Woolworths Metro or TerryWhite Chemmart. Stock it with a range of essential personal care and hygiene products and donate your filled bag to a local women’s shelter. If you have a little extra cash to spare, consider donating some larger items or a few special indulgences.
3. Honour your inspiration.
Is there a woman in your life who you respect and admire? Perhaps it’s a your boss, a business mentor, a colleague or even a family member? International Women’s Day is the perfect time to show her how you feel! Honour her with a beautiful token of your appreciation in the form of a bouquet from The Pantry On Grey Florist. Team it with a card inscribed with some carefully chosen words of thanks or an inspirational quote from your favourite female writer.
4. Travel with your tribe.
Time spent on nurturing and maintaining the bonds shared with your female friends is so important, and what better way to empower women than to focus on building strong relationships. Head into Flight Centre and plan the perfect escape for you and your crew. From yoga and meditation on a remote beach to mountain climbing, the team at Flight Centre can assist you every step of the way.
5. Self love.
The role of women in modern society is constantly evolving. Women are busier and have more commitments than ever before and it is vitally important to take the time to focus on mental health and wellbeing. A perfect way to mark International Women’s Day is to take time for the most important woman in your life… you! Indulge in something that brings you joy. Maybe it’s taking the time to enjoy a leisurely lunch? Grab a Banh Mi from Mrs Luu’s or some fresh sushi from Ariake On Grey and treat yourself to a riverside picnic. You know that friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with forever? Make it happen! Arrange to meet for a drink at Little Big House after work. Make time for whatever it is that makes your heart happy.
